ESOL
• Is English your second language and would you like to improve your speaking and listening skills?
• Do you need English for Citizenship?
ESOL and Citizenship – ESOL classes automatically include study of the Citizenship topics identified by the Home Office. Students with English skills below intermediate level can get a letter from us at the end of their course to show that they have studied some of the Citizenship topics. This letter, and the certificate showing that they have passed an English exam at the end of their course, are required by the Home Office for people applying for Indefinite Leave to Remain or British Citizenship.
Learners with English skills above intermediate level only have to pass the online ‘Life in theUK ‘ test at The Luton Foyer,
telephone 01582 401366 or at the Ultimate Learning Learndirect centre in Stopsley, telephone 01582 720270/723720.
Family Learning
Family Literacy, Language and Numeracy Courses (FLLN)
FLLN courses are organised in partnership with schools (nursery, early years, Key Stage 1&2), children centres, pre-schools and voluntary organisations working with families. Provision varies from one-off workshops, ‘Keeping up with the Children courses in literacy, numeracy and early learning goals, to more intensive Family Literacy/Numeracy courses where parents and carers
can update their own English and numeracy skills and gain qualifications.
Keeping up with the Children
Provision varies from one-off workshops, short ‘Keeping up with the Children’courses in literacy, numeracy, early learning goals, rhyme bags and story sacks, to more intensive Family Literacy/Numeracy courses where parents and carers can update their own English and numeracy skills and gain qualifications.
Wider Family Learning (WFL)
This is another opportunity for parents/carers to learn with their children. Courses can be tailored to suit the partner organisations, but examples include Family Art, Fun with Food, Story Sacks and Family ICT. We are also working with family workers to
offer Peers Early Education Partnership (PEEP) and Parenting courses.
For more information about Family Learning activities in your area, contact the Family Learning Team on (01582) 548962.
